When you begin to consider losing weight or maintaining a healthier lifestyle, you’ll inevitably think about what you eat and the changes you’ll have to make. This can be off-putting and difficult to commit to because you just don’t want to give up some of the foods you really enjoy. Luckily, improving your diet involves more than just cutting out your favorites—it’s absolutely within your reach. Here are some easy ways to start eating healthy.

Choose Alternatives

There are plenty of healthy alternative foods to satisfy cravings. If you’re craving something sweet, yogurt and homemade smoothies are good alternatives to ice cream. Got a hankering for french fries? Try baking some veggie fries—they’re easy to make in your oven, and they have the same texture as french fries. There are lots of creative recipes to help you enjoy your new diet, so don’t be afraid to try something new as a substitute for your old vices. You may just pick up some new, healthier recipes.

Avoid Sugar

It’s not all about counting calories. Try to be conscious of how much sugar is in your foods and how much of it you consume. Some big offenders are soda, sports drinks, and, sneakiest of all, juices. Fruit juices may give the impression of being healthy, but liquids such as apple juice are often packed with added sugars.

Drink Water

Sip water throughout the day to ward off dehydration, which makes your body feel hungrier to make up for the fluids it lacks. Drinking plenty of water will also aid your digestion, and you’re far less likely to indulge in sugary drinks if your thirst is always quenched. If you need a change from normal water, try adding a slice of lemon.

Start Exercising

Chances are, you’re already considering options to start exercising alongside using these easy ways to start eating healthily. Exercise will adjust your psychological state, and as you begin feeling heathier and making progress, you’ll crave healthier foods to continue that feeling of health and progress. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, options for exercise have become limited. The easiest way to start exercising is to look into working out at home. Exercises such as cardio are effective and very easy to get into, so options such as elliptical exercise equipment are great investments—you only need to devote 30 minutes of your day to get the benefits of cardio.
